Learn the art of wood tinting

At Tinted, we believe the best results come from products—and processes—you can trust. Whether you’re new to wood finishing or a seasoned maker, our clean, step-by-step approach takes the guesswork out and puts confidence back in your hands. No complicated instructions. No harsh chemicals. Just beautiful finishes made simple.

Step by Step

01 / Select Your Color

Explore our designer-curated palette to find the perfect shade for your project. Whether you're after a deep, moody walnut or a soft, sunlit neutral, each finish is carefully formulated to bring out the natural character of the wood.

→ Pro Tip: View swatches in natural light to see the full depth of color.

02/ Prep & Apply

Start with a smooth, clean surface – sand wood thoroughly with 100 - 150 - 220 grit allowing for maximum saturation. Remove any dust or residue. Stir your Tinted Finish until all of the pigment is mixed together.

Apply with a brush, cloth, wool, sponge, or spray in the direction of the grain, using even strokes. Allow the stain to penetrate between 5-15 minutes depending on richness desired. Then wipe away the excess stain for a clean, consistent result.

→ Pro Tip: For deeper color, apply a second coat after the first has dried completely.

03/ Enjoy a Lasting Result

Let your piece dry fully, then step back and admire the transformation. Our plant-based, 0 VOC formula ensures a rich, durable finish that’s built to last—without compromising indoor air quality or safety.

→ Pro Tip: Keep your finish looking fresh by dusting with a dry cloth and avoiding harsh cleaners.
